Late Rev. Dr. M. Peterson Luke
The Great Visionary
As a prospective student of our Nursing Academy, we introduce to you and your family, the founder of the institution, Late Rev. Dr. M. Peterson Luke.
Dr. Luke established St. Luke's School of Nursing and MPHW (F) Training Center in 1988 at Visakhapatnam. It was his desire to establish a College of Nursing which finally became a reality in January 2004.
Dr. Luke was a simple and humble man who had lived and worked for the sick and suffering. Dr. Luke strongly believed that humanitarian service that he envisaged in his mind cannot be done singlehandedly. So he came back to India in 1978 with a vision derived from his experiences abroad and started the first institution in Andhra Pradesh in 1979 for training young and dedicated paramedical staff under the self-employment scheme.
Dr. Luke was an exemplary administrator and a gracious pedagogue who was beyond the reach of pressure and prejudice. We dedicate ourselves towards realisation of his dreams for the sick and the poor.
Awards: In recognition of his outstanding service to society in general and to the nursing profession in particular, Rev. Dr. Peterson Luke has been honored with numerous prestigious awards, including:
1. Glory of India International Award (Gold Medal) – Conferred in recognition of his exceptional contributions to society and the nursing profession. The award was presented by Dr. Abid Hussain, the Indian Ambassador to the USA, on behalf of the International Friendship Society of India, USA.
2. Vijayashree Award – Presented by the International Friendship Society, Hyderabad, in recognition of his outstanding achievements and significant contributions toward enriching human life.
3. Rajiv Ratna Award Peace Unity Award – Presented at the National Peace Conference, New Delhi in recognition of his commitment to promoting peace, unity, and humanitarian values.
